Spring Cleanup Event – New Castle Industrial Tract

Drew Matalonis and his daughter, Cassie (7-9 class), are organizing a Trash / Litter Pick up for this Sunday May 19th between 1-3PM at the New Castle Industrial Tract which is a beautiful 1.5 mile paved bike trail.

Approximate Address: 1000 Delaware Street, New Castle, DE

The route that we have chosen is a safe bike path, without any vehicular traffic. We have secured 12 orange safety vests from Friends of Bellevue State Park, as well as about 12 grabbers and a few buckets. We will also provide contractor trash bags but will likely not be able to provide leather work gloves for everyone. I suggest to everyone that comes to bring a pair of gloves they like.

Before we get started, I will review with everyone some items that are NOT to be touched (i.e. anything sharp, broken, or containing an liquid, or unknown. and poison ivy)

All WMS Children and Parents that want to participate meet at the trailhead of the New Castle County Industrial Track Trail.
It’s right off of route 273, between Family Foundation Academy and William Penn High School. Click the map below to see where the trail head is located.

The plan is to walk up and back (3 miles total), from what I understand the trail is in need of a spruce up. Sunscreen and bug spray should not be a problem at this point, but if a parent / child wants this, they should show up with it already on.

The Wilmington Montessori Auction Committee has four remaining items to bid on! Check them out at the front entrance. There are two pairs of shoes, two gym memberships and a Cosmetic Consultation to include Botox. To bid, just use your phone-number and place your bid amount. Water Station Volunteers Needed
We are looking for a few more volunteers to help out at a water station along the marathon course. You can sign up for one of two shifts, either from 8:45-10:30 or 10:30-12:15. We will be staffing it with another group, so we are looking for 4-5 people for the earlier shift and 2-3 for the later shift. Relay runners who are finished are welcome to sign up! It would also be a good job for family members who have come to cheer that day and hand drinks to their family members that are running! If you would like to show your support for the Meerkat Milers on race day at the water station, at our tent in Tubman Garrett Riverfront Park, or anywhere around town, you can order a limited edition Meerkat Milers t-shirt. T-shirts are available for $12 each (or 2 for $22, or 3 for $30). But you have to order by Thursday May 2nd at Noon using the form below. Pickup for the shirts will be Friday May 10th at drop-off / pickup. Payments can be made via cash, check or credit card at time of pickup.

2013 Casino Games Rules

This year, we hoped to provide something for everyone. The casino games will not function as true gambling, where a “cash out” option exists. Instead, winners will have a chance for raffle items. There are rules and regulations put forth by the State of Delaware, which we have reviewed and have done our best to be in compliance.

Our Casino Games will function as follows:

1.) As guests enter the gym, there will be casino tables and a booth from which to buy raffle tickets.

2.) The guest may then either place their raffle ticket in the raffle box or take their tickets to the gaming tables for a chance to win additional raffle tickets.

3.) The dealer will exchange your raffle tickets for chips. Good Luck!!

4.) You may exchange your chips for raffle tickets when you are done playing (this includes any winnings). You may not “Cash Out”.

5.) The gaming tables will close at 9:15. This will allow time to place raffle tickets in the raffle box.

6.) All guests will have the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets throughout the evening.

7.) Raffle tickets will have a dollar to chip ratio ($5 in raffle tickets will be $5 in chips)

8.) Raffle tickets will be $5/ticket. Guests can choose to run a tab, or buy tickets with cash or credit card.

Scenario:

Mike Meerkat is attending Wilmington Montessori School’s Lucky Pair! Once he’s perused the auction tables, visited the food/bar, he is ready for a hand of Texas Hold-Em. Mike will need to go to the ticket booth and purchase $25 in tickets. He will then find the poker table and ask the dealer to exchange his tickets for chips. He will receive $25 in chips. Unfortunately, Mike lost the first round but wants to continue playing. So, he asked the dealer for $25 more in raffle tickets. The dealer will signal the Ticket Man and Mike will purchase $25 more raffle tickets and the dealer will exchange them for chips. Mike’s luck turned and he won $50 in chips. He decides to check on the status of his auction items and exchanges his chips for raffle tickets. He receives $50 in raffle tickets. He now can place his raffle tickets in his desired raffle item’s box.
